In a recent post I discussed the role of technology in writing including the new Google +. I promised that I would report back on my findings and thought I would do so today.
To me, Google + seems like a fancy ballroom all decorated for a party. We have fancy linens and centerpieces, the band is tuning up and the waiters are putting the finishing touches on the tables. There is only one problem, only a handful of guests have arrived. The other guests are at the party down the hall playing Heads Up Seven Up and Musical Chairs and plan to stop by later.
Google + has many wonderful things to offer and Google has obviously put a lot of thought into their first attempt at social media. I pulled this quote from one of my Google + comments it’s a quote from a post by Neil Gaiman that was written by someone named Rowan:
If you want to write a short update with a general blast, it’s like Twitter. If you want to write a blogpost with a public audience, it’s like a blog site. If you want to write a blogpost with a closed audience, it’s like Livejournal. If you want to start an online conversation with only four participants it’s like an e-mail thread. And if you want to build and share with discrete communities of people and interact with folks you know, it’s like what Facebook says it is but isn’t.
Will Google + take off and enjoy the success that Facebook and Twitter enjoy at this time? Only time will tell.
If you would like a invitation to join Google + please let me know, it would be nice to see you at the party, I’m the quiet one standing in the corner.

I’m just getting acquainted with Google+, so any info about how to use would be helpful. It appears that Google is trying to take over everything! They may just succeed. I think fb has pretty much lost its network value–at least it feels that way to me. Anyway, nice to have you in my CIRCLE, Suzanne! We’ll see if anyone joins us!
Dear Clara,
I found a series of articles by Melissa Wiley on the Geek Mom site really helpful to demystifying Google +.
Here is a link about circles:

I too will be interested to see how well this takes off. So glad you are in my circle.

Hello I was wondering if you could perhaps send me an invite 🙂
Just sent the invite, let me know if it didn’t go through.
Sue
Thanks. I did receive the invite, but it said that I have to be 18 to be able to accept it T^T
