One of the interesting things about writing a blog is reviewing the stats for popular posts. Sarah and I are always amazed to see which of our posts take off and generate views continuously and which ones die a quiet death.
We have determined that if a post links to popular culture in some way, readers will visit our blog. Sometimes it’s easy to determine the connection. In the case of my Mother’s Day post in which I liken my aunts to the Gabor sisters we would see increased interest every time Zsa Zsa was in the news. The question “What did Zsa Zsa do?” would come to mind every time I’d see a spike in the numbers.
Sometimes a post is popular because of an image we have inserted. Sarah’s post about her niece that featured a picture of an adorable baby black jaguar is another that receives an unusual amount of traffic.
I really tried to find a picture of Zsa Zsa with a black jaguar but I couldn’t find one.
I think I must have watched too many Columbo episodes or read too many Agatha Christie novels because when we see a huge spike I try to determine what is causing the increased interest.
We just recently experienced another huge jump of interest in Sarah’s black jaguar post (more that ever before) so with a little deductive reasoning and a little work on the computer I was able to link the increased interest with the release of the movie The Treasure of the Black Jaguar at the Cannes Film festival.
Now I don’t know about you, but I think that was some pretty good detective work. I think Miss Marple would be proud.
