For our “Picture Book Party” writing group we were given the assignment to go on an artist’s date. The concept from Julia Cameron’s book The Right to Write is simple:
Set aside a block of time to nurture your creative consciousness. It’s a play date that you do by yourself. This can be looking at art or plants, listening to music or even watching a sunset. The purpose is to fill your creative well.
For my artist’s date I took myself to Old Town here in San Diego. I find looking at the architecture, colors, and patterns helps spark my mind like no other place. The smell of Mexican food also makes for a mighty temptation.
I loved the idea of an artist’s date and I will continue to schedule them. I get a lot of inspiration and some great enchiladas.
