Over the weekend, Super Blog Buddy and I took a field trip!
I am a firm believer in creativity dates – and in the fact that all sorts of art experiences enrich and feed the writing life. And hanging out with SBB is always fun.
The high light of our noodling around Encinitas was a visit to ART N SOUL ON 101. Wow! I’m in love with this place. Such an abundance of surprises and delights. We saw Lori Mitchell’s mosaics along with zivas made from costume jewelry, painted windows, and all sorts of fun and functional art made from newspapers, wire, license plates, record albums, plastic milk cartons and lots more!
From their website:
Art N Soul is a gallery with a passion for local artists and commitment to social change. One hundred percent of store profit is donated to community charities. Together, volunteer staff artists and the customer create a unique relationship supporting a greater cause. The gallery proudly carries a truly unique and eclectic array of art including colorful paintings, sculpture, functional art and wearable creations of all kinds. Mediums range from traditional to recycled. There is something special for all ages at Art N Soul on 101.
Here’s a place where every day items are being re-visioned and reborn into something new and beautiful.
Meanwhile, the youngest boy in the house has been working on building a go-cart for a school project – it has to be made from all recycled and reused parts. He was lamenting his lack of wheels yesterday and then, like magic, our neighbor handed four beautiful – but definitely reused – wheels over the fence. As a very famous scarecrow once said, “Oh joy! Oh rapture!”
