A couple of random moments coming together

  1. Blogger with no idea what to write about
  2. Brief rave
  3. Posted link
  4. Intriguing idea

During a recent critique group meeting, Carolyn made a quick rave about the actress/reader who read Mary Pearson’s The Adoration of Jenna Fox. Then Greg Pincus posted a link to his blog where he interviews Holly Cupola about her innovative project, posting the audio version of her debut novel, Tell Me a Secret, for free online. And she happens to mention that the actress she hired to read her novel is the same Jenna Lamia that Carolyn was raving about.

Ta da! Today’s post was born.

Check out the interview for yourself, but the short version is that Holly Cupola turned down an offer for the audio rights so that she could produce it the way she envisioned. She and her husband took on the entire project, hiring the professionals to help them create their ideal audiobook. Tell Me a Secret has definitely been on my radar already – it’s getting a lot of buzz. But this was the first I’d heard of the audio version being available online. Definitely intriguing.

The practical side of me has to wonder what did this cost? To give it away for free? Obviously, they had faith in their vision. And it will likely pay off.

As someone (braver than me) said, leap and the net will appear.
